I’m fairly sure that when I took this photograph, the train was moving towards me – which means that it is moving from right to left in the image. I had a suspicion that the received wisdom is that ‘good’ pictures show movement from left to right. Sure enough, when I checked, I found that this is indeed the case – apparently even photography judges may well be unconsciously biased towards left to right images.
Of course, there is also the coming towards you or going away from you dynamic in play. When all is said and done, I just like this photo.
If I could just see the driver in the window to confirm direction …
